I was wondering how I would introduce myself; being generously given this place within the community I considered various options. The most lucrative being bursting through the doors of Trademark Gamers, with a golden aura draped around my body – and the worms grenade tune in the background playing ( HALLLELUJAH! – you know the one.) Whilst juggling a combination of dictionaries, thesauruses and console pads. I’m afraid I couldn’t pull it off due to the budget restrictions, so here’s my first piece for you guys under the TmG banner.

There was an opportunity for me to dazzle you with my grammatical prowess, and hurl words at you that you’d of had to use Google to understand that would admittedly more-than-likely have taken me twice as long to find, moving swiftly on from my ramblings it really was a dilemma – what kind of piece would correctly introduce my style, humour and personality to my audience. So I felt a top-ten was in order, a light hearted look at a group of people that will more than likely never gander at this page. Kudos- I thought. I’ve at least found what I’m going to write about – but this brings up yet another questionable decision to make. What is the topic? I’ve surely procrastinated enough to fill most of the page with enticing words and imagery that will make you chuckle – but there is still essentially no meaning to this piece.

That’s when it hit me, randomly tugging my desk and gazing mindlessly about my study. Technology. It’s surely something that every person, avid enough to be reading this piece will enjoy, and understand, and perhaps if I’m lucky – even relate to. The world around me seems to be moving at a million miles per hour, I can remember just a few years ago when TFT screens were seen as something to be marvelled upon, now they are just “the norm”. Headsets that are, and i quote “specifically designed for a multitude of uses including MP3-players, laptops, Sony PSP and other portable consoles”. Now, to me – this quote in layman's terms seems to read “Our headsets are designed to play music, or game volume – really loud!” But for this added bonus of extra volume (or as the players that have just bought them and received a real boost in gaming skill like to call it “crispness” ) you have to slap on a price tag which is a 300% increase of that of its competitors.

The next leap, other than mp3 players which you can fit between the air particles in your pocket – seems to be computers which you can interact with, using your weight and movement to control the screen, I’m sure activity while browsing is the thing all gamers are desperately craving. The companies/entrepreneurs that think up these crazy ideas just seem to be wearing dollar-sign glasses; CGS Directors spring to mind. The actual amount of usefulness it would provide to the every-day person is minimal at best. Why does it seem, that whatever is the “next big thing” seems so wasteful and un-useful until we actually get to interact with it? When VHS was the most popular type of watching videos, nobody was interested in DVD’s at all – until said item was taken out of a concept and made real. So who knows where we will be in 20 years time, I may be instantly uploading an article via my brainwaves, and you could be reading it through your internet-accessible glasses.
